The Institute of Power,  Process and Environmental Engineering  focuses on the theoretical and applied knowledge necessary for the planning, development, optimization and regulation of power and mass transport processes, thermal and hydraulic machinery and devices. Its activities also include complete machine installation and systems typical of classical mechanical engineering, process engineering, food engineering, pharmaceutical industry and all fields of environmental engineering, and different waste management and control systems. The core of the work is in the use of non-invasive techniques such as LDA, PIV, as well as the use and development of different numerical methods (FEM, FVM, BEM) in computational fluid dynamics.

Research in the area of power engineering is focused on the safe, reliable, economical, and environmentally-friendly production, transport, and use of energy. The practical and theoretical work comprises research and development into different types of machines and devices such as internal combustion engines, hydraulic machines, gas and steam turbines, steam boilers, and HVAC systems.
Process engineering is one of the interdisciplinary fields of technology. Research encompasses a study of the mass and energy flows of multi-phase, multi-component systems in devices, and the complete process system characteristics of mechanical and thermal diffusion process technology.

The environmental engineering programme centres around the study and practical aspects of knowledge obtained through process engineering in different environmental technologies for the primary emission reduction of harmful substances at its source, elimination of pollutants from gases, water and ground, management of industrial and household waste etc. The emphasis is placed on modeling, regulation and prevention of industrial and household contamination of the environment, study of combustion and incineration processes, and waste management techniques.
